That pesky little manufactured holiday (Valentine’s Day) is just around the corner, which means if you don’t have plans for that special someone — or plans to hang with friends and ignore the day all together — you should probably get moving. What better way to show your true love you mean it than by starting the celebration this weekend? As luck in love would have it, this weekend is packed with cupid-themed events. Fall in love, Canton, cause it’s the weekend!

Society of Excellent Women February Meetup

If you believe Galentine’s Day trumps (pun intended) Valentine’s Day, get your weekend started off with some refreshing girl power at the Society of Excellent Women February Meetup. On Saturday, February 11 head to Wax & Wane Fiber (1792 Union Ave. in Woodberry) and craft/shop your heart out from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission (includes a cotton candy or a boozy drink). If you’re looking to join in on the crafting, $37.92 gets you into the pink dye party with Wax and Wane, and comes with a cotton bandana. $53.74 will get you silk scarf. Regardless, you can browse the pop-up shop of local women makers or just hang out with the most excellent women around. Girl crushes for all.

Canton Memories at Grunwald Club and Canton Branch of Enoch Pratt Free Library

In love with your neighborhood and the art that goes with it? Head to the good ol’ Grunwald Club (2825 O’Donnell Street) and hear from folklorist Elaine Eff, who will be giving a talk about Baltimore’s beloved folk art: painted screens. The event is complimentary and held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 11. Before or after the talk, be sure to head to the Canton Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library to see an exhibit of the painted screens on display.

Baltimore Love Stories: A Historic Valentine’s Walking Tour in Mount Vernon

History buffs looking for an atypical Valentine’s Day stroll might want to check out the historic Mount Vernon Valentine’s Walking Tour on Sunday, February 12 at 11 a.m. Organized by the Baltimore Heritage Society, Baltimore historian Jamie Hunt will lead a Valentine’s Day-themed tour of romance in Mount Vernon, and a look inside Ambassador Marburg’s mansion. The cost is $15 to register.

Candle Making and Wine, VDay Edition at Artifact

If you think low-key love is where it’s at, grab a ticket to Artifact Coffee’s Sunday Candle Making and Wine event and melt wax with the one you want. Tickets ($50 each) include all of the supplies you need to come away with two all-natural, scented soy candles. The event will be held on Sunday, February 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. and promises 1.5 to 2 hours of drinking, eating, laughing, and flexing your creative muscles. So head to the most chill caffeine watering hole around and melt some wax like you do your lover’s heart.
