My new favorite winter word is ‘Hygge’ (pronounced “hYOOguh). It’s Danish for cozy and per NPR connotes “fireplace warmth with candles and family and friends and food, tucked under blankets on a snowy day, cup-of- coffee conversation, scarf-snuggle, squiggly, warm baby love.” What’s not to love about that? Sign me up. All winter long, it’s Hygge-time. Design Distillery wants to help make your winter Hygge-lrific with a prize pack sure to warm you up (enter to win at the bottom of the post).
Design Distillery, previously Home on the Harbor, is Baltimore’s premier destination for high-quality, modern furniture and home décor. Last weekend we took a trip to the other side of the pond to check out their goods. Since its inception 14 years ago, Design Distillery has grown from a small, vintage storefront on Charles Street in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood to the 9,500 square-foot shop it is today, and has continuously changed the way customers think about furniture.
Walking in the door, the bright store immediately draws you in with home goods perfect for gifting (to yourself or others, we don’t judge). We spent time looking through all the accent items that would be sure to make our house and office more organized and more appealing.
Moving towards the back of the store, you’ll find a giant furniture gallery. Be sure to check out the downstairs area (as well as the ‘outlet’ section in the back corner)! As a home design trend curator, the shop show cases more than 50 different local and international furniture and accessory lines including Knoll, Blu Dot, Gus Modern, American Leather and Normann Coppenhagen, and is the only store in the U.S. to be featured as a “shop-in-shop” for the popular French outdoor furniture manufacturer, Fermob.
Fermob is my favorite. Fermob, the French manufacturer of colorful outdoor furniture and accessories, creates innovative, clever, practical and fun garden furniture. Any of the well-designed pieces would brighten up the dreariest of concrete backyards. I basically want the entire line, and the solar light the most.
But even as I plan for the warmer months, let’s live in the present. Enter to win a Hygge Prize Pack from Design Distillery below! You can enter daily, and we’ll pick our winner on Wednesday, January 11th!
