So I’ve been a little absent on the wedding posts and fully plan on doing more after my wedding to fill you in some tips I’ve learned and great Baltimore vendors to check out. But I felt it was important to update you on believing a too good to be true deal. Groupons and Living Social deals are great ways to save money. We’re using one for our wedding photo booth, but with them you need to do research on the company so you’re not left in the lurch or without eyelashes a week before your wedding.
It all began with a groupon deal for eye lash extensions in Columbia. (Additional lesson learned. Don’t leave Canton) It was a great price and eyelash extensions were on my beauty bucket list. Two birds, one stone. I made my appointment, trekked out to Columbia and got down to business. It wasn’t the smoothest process but since your eyes are shut the entire time it’s hard to tell that you won’t be able to open them when it’s over. Ungluing your eyes isn’t an easy process, and I’m pretty sure a lot of lower lashes aren’t there anymore.
At least it looked good right?! Eh. As my best friend said via text, they’re not that bad. Throughout the weekend it felt pretty awkward and like something was sticking my eye with a pin. By Tuesday I realized beauty shouldn’t equal this much pain and tried the store’s recommended remedy to get them off (olive oil soaked cotton balls. Yup. Horrific and it made me crave Italian food) but they weren’t budging.
So finally tying into why this is on the blog, I called Canton’s own About Faces and asked for help. Julie York who specialized in lash extensions, was able to squeeze me in and spent over an hour getting them off. She was as gentle as possible and if I decided to brave this venture again, I would without a doubt go see her. The salon I went to used an extreme amount of glue (which lead to the pin feeling) and glued to my skin instead of the lash, hence the overall uncomfortableness and difficulty to remove. Her calm demeanor as greatly appreciated (since I was clearly freaking out) and their overall relaxing atmosphere helped me realize I might just get through this with some of the lashes I started with (I had a nightmare Monday night that I was going to be eye bald).
I have officially learned my lesson. Some things shouldn’t be groupon deals, research your vendors and why leave Canton when we have such great business here already. To prove that I’ve learned my lesson, I’ll be hitting up About Faces for a pre-wedding birthday massage and manicure.
